Fancy trying this?
Ceilidh dancing is amazing exercise, great for beating the blues and for keeping the mind sharp. No partner needed, suitable for everyone, and no prior dance experience is needed.
Classes for everyone
Weekly ceilidh classes (roughly age 12 – adult)
Ceilidh classes suitable for everyone, including beginners:
- Monday afternoons – The ZedShed, Penryn (13:15-14:45)
- Tuesday mornings – St Erth Church Hall (11:00 – 12:30)
- Tuesday evenings – The Ladder (Old Redruth Library), Redruth (19:30 – 21:00)
- Wednesday evenings – Ladock Community Hall and Grampound Road Village Hall (Sir Robert Harvey Memorial Hall) (18:30 – 20:00)
The emphasis is on everyone having fun and getting moving and rather less on absolute precision of dance steps (though these will be taught too, of course) or terminology.
These classes are suitable for ages 12 to adults. However, please do get in touch if you would like to discuss suitability for attending with children under the age of 12. The Carharrack class, being later in the evening, we do not recommend for younger children.
Pop up classes and workshops
We occasionally offer more specialist classes and workshops and these pop up throughout the year. We can also run these, and our normal classes or variations of them, for your group – please do ask. These are fantastic for celebrations, hen nights, birthday treats, for community groups, youth groups and team-building events for you and your colleagues!

What to expect at ceilidh classes
Classes with Kate at Ceilidh Cornwall mainly cover Scottish ceilidh dances but also English, Welsh, and occasionally American and European dances. Kate adapts the dances to suit the group, to include everyone and offering simpler dances for Ceilidh Tots.
The emphasis is on everyone having fun and getting moving and rather less on absolute precision of dance steps (though these will be taught too, of course) or terminology.
Also, ceilidh isn’t Scottish Country Dancing (though some dances overlap). Scottish Country Dancing is great and there are several excellent country dance groups in Cornwall, but it is rather more formal than ceilidh. Here’s a glimpse of what ceilidh is like:
There are more and more ceilidhs being run in Cornwall. Of course with callers, which all bands here have, you don’t need to learn any dances before turning up, but it is fun to have a good idea of what to do and dance with others who do, as well as have time to explore more varied dances than appear at most ceilidh events.
