Pop-up events

Every now and then we arrange one-off workshops or dance events, in addition to our classes and dances with ceilidh bands. Our next one-off event is in celebration of the 250th birthday of Jane Austen. Please feel most welcome to join us:

An Evening of Regency Dancing, in honour of the 250th Birthday of Miss Jane Austen

Friday 12th December, Ponsanooth Hall

Pray, join us for an evening of lively dancing, light-hearted company, and a dash of Regency elegance — all in celebration of the incomparable Miss Austen’s 250th birthday!

At: Ponsanooth Hall — a most beautiful and fitting setting

On: 12th December 2025

Doors Open: 7:30 pm

Dancing: 8 pm – 10:30 pm, with a pause for refreshments midway

Dance caller, Kate Smith, will lead us through the dances of the era — no experience, nor indeed a partner, is required! Steps shall be explained, laughter encouraged, and mistakes cheerfully forgiven.

The music will be recorded, but the smiles, twirls, and general merriment will be quite real.

Refreshments: Non-alcoholic drinks and light snacks will be provided during the interval. There will be no bar, so if you fancy something a little stronger, do please bring it along.

Dress: Regency dress is warmly encouraged — empire-line gowns, breeches, waistcoats, and the like, or your own creative interpretation of the fashion of the times — though long dresses, suits, or even a subtle nod to the fashions of the time will do very well indeed.

Above all, come prepared to step lively, laugh freely, and celebrate the wit and spirit of Jane Austen on her 250th birthday. Authenticity is admired, but merriment is essential!

Limited parking is available beside the hall, but you may park on the street behind (Commercial Hill) and take a footpath to the hall. If you are able to share cars (or carriages, indeed) that might be convenient. The U2 bus runs between Falmouth, Truro and Ponsanooth before the dancing. The U1 bus operates after the dancing, but from Perranwell (about a 20 minute walk). Perhaps a bus there and a taxi back?
